Present Use and Future Plans
The upper level is used as a Community Center where parties, wedding receptions, anniversaries, and family reunions are held for a reasonable fee.
The Crowley senior group, "Young at Heart", have weekly coffee socials, and monthly potluck dinners at the restored school. They also hold some fundraisers here. The school also serves as the Town Hall and Town office. Town Municipal Court is held here too. Crowley County Water Association meets here monthly. Some Community Service activities, and Health and Human Service seminars are also held here. Informational meetings are not charged a fee to use the building. As you can see, the Heritage Center meets many needs for the county.
The Heritage Museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and afternoons from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. It is also open by appointment.
The Heritage Society has supervised the entire building restoration and development of the Heritage Museum. They welcome working members, for which dues are waived. Those who wish to support the Society, but are unable to work, may do so by being a patron member for $25.00 a year. This can be a family membership.
Yearly ongoing projects for the Society focuses on Crowley County's agricultural, social, and economical history. Programs about the history of Crowley County are offered to all grade levels in our schools. Current projects that are in the planning stages are: elaborating on the ranching in Crowley County, building a web site for the Center, putting audio listening centers in the museum and improving the landscape with xeriscape projects.
The Heritage Society continues to give a scholarship to a graduating senior each year. To participate the student must write an essay on the subject, "How Will My Crowley County Heritage Effect My Future." The essays are judged by a panel of three judges. We also sponsor a spelling bee for the Ward Middle School.
Planned projects for the future are continued development of the museum, and changing of displays as different groups visit and new items become available. We are adding memorials and displays to honor the diverse ethnic cultures that participated in the growth of our county.
To be notified of these events and to receive our annual newsletter, please email or send us your address and consider a regular or patron membership.
